- For all GI divisions, athlete weighs-in WITH the GI.
- For all NOGI divisions, athlete weighs-in WITHOUT the GI.
There is NO WEIGHT ALLOWANCE for all Juvenile, Adult and Master divisions.
There is a 1 LB. WEIGHT ALLOWANCE for all kids divisions (Mighty-Mite 1 thru Teen 3).
Any weight over these allowances will result in missing weight.
Competitors, or parents of children competitors, are responsible for ensuring that the weight is met. All athletes must make weight prior to their first match. Any athlete that is over their registered weight and the allowance is subject to disqualification.
Super Cup strongly recommends that children compete at their natural weight and do not support or encourage any form of weight cutting for competition.
Athletes are allowed to weigh in without knee or elbow braces, but they will have to be wearing them at the time of the uniform inspection. The athlete cannot step on the scale with shoes or any item besides his/her regular uniform and equipment permitted for use during matches.
At Super Cup, we use different bracket types based on the number of competitors in a division. Here's a detailed breakdown of each:
Bracket of 2 – Best 2 Out of 3
When there are only two competitors in a division, we use a Best 2 Out of 3 format. This ensures that the winner is determined based on consistent performance rather than a single match outcome.
How It Works:
The two competitors will face each other in a match. If one competitor wins the first two matches, they are declared the winner, and the third match is not needed. If both competitors win one match each, a third and final match will determine the champion.
Example:
Match 1: Competitor A vs. Competitor B → Competitor A wins
Match 2: Competitor A vs. Competitor B → Competitor B wins
Match 3 (Final): Competitor A vs. Competitor B → Competitor A wins
Result: Competitor A wins 2-1 and is the champion.
This system ensures fairness by giving both competitors a chance to adjust their strategy after the first match.
Bracket of 3 – True Round Robin
With three competitors, we use a true round robin format, meaning each competitor fights against every other competitor once.
How It Works:
Each competitor will have two matches. After all matches are completed, the competitor with the best record is the champion.
If there is a tie, we use the following tiebreakers in order:
Tiebreakers (applied step by step until a winner is determined):
At Super Cup a bracket of 3 competitors, tie-breaking rules follows a structured priority system to determine the final ranking if multiple competitors end up with the same number of wins. The order of tie-breaking criteria is:
Number of Wins by Submission: The competitor with the most victories by submission will be ranked higher.
Fastest Submission (in Seconds): If competitors have the same number of submission wins, the one who achieved their fastest submission in the shortest time (measured in seconds) will be ranked higher.
Sum of Score in Winning Matches: If still tied, the competitor with the highest cumulative score in their winning matches will be ranked higher.
Sum of All Opponents’ Scores (Lower is Better): If the tie persists, the competitor whose opponents scored the least total points against them across all matches will be ranked higher.
Head-to-Head Result
Bracket of 4 or More – Double Elimination
For divisions with four or more competitors, we use a double elimination bracket. This format ensures that a competitor is not eliminated after a single loss; instead, they must lose twice to be out of the tournament.
How It Works: In a Bracket of 4 or More – Double Elimination with a Bronze Match, the losers bracket finalist (the last remaining competitor in the losers bracket) does not compete against the loser of the winners bracket final.
The structure is as follows:
1. Winners Bracket Determines 1st and 2nd Place
2. Losers Bracket Determines 3rd Place
This separates the winners bracket and losers bracket completely for final placements. The top two competitors are determined solely in the winners bracket. The best competitor from the losers bracket is awarded 3rd place without needing a separate bronze match. It ensures a clear and structured placement system while minimizing unnecessary extra matches.
We keep this information updated on our tournament page at www.supercupjj.com. We post the tournament schedule and the brackets on Wednesday the week of the tournament.

If an athlete is the only competitor in their division, they have the option to remain in their weight class, make weight, and receive the 1st place medal.
To be officially recognized in the final championship standings and earn points for their team, the athlete must complete the uniform inspection, weigh in, and receive approval.
Athletes who choose this option are not eligible for a refund, as it will be considered as if they had competed.
Once the athlete has had their weight and uniform checked, they will then be eligible to register for the Open Class division in the case that the age and belt division offers an Open Class division.
Weigh-Ins Information: Competitors may weigh in as soon as doors open at 8:00 AM, regardless of their scheduled competition time.
Priority for Early Competitors: From 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM, priority will be given to competitors scheduled to compete between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM. Other competitors may still weigh in, but they might have to wait until these priority athletes are processed first.
Weigh-In Deadline: All competitors MUST complete their weigh-in at least one hour before their scheduled division. For example, if your match is scheduled for 11:00 AM, you must weigh in by 10:00 AM at the latest.
We make every effort to separate teammates within the same division. When teammates must compete in the same bracket, they will be placed on opposite sides whenever possible to minimize early matchups against each other. However, in cases where multiple competitors from the same gym are in the bracket, separation may not be possible.
You are responsible for moving to different (older or heavier) division to avoid facing a teammate. Any change must be complete by the posted deadline. Brackets are constantly changing and we are happy to explain our thought process behind creating them! If there is something that needs to be adjusted, we will do what we can. It is always better to notify us as soon as possible so we can make any corrections necessary!
Smoothcomp App: If you haven't seen it, Smoothcomp has an app! We highly suggest you download it and have it ready on tournament day! Lots of cool and innovative features!

No they can't. Athletes are allowed to enter in ONLY IN 1 DIVISION.
Multiple registrations is NOT AN AVAILABLE. Thanks for your understanding! ;-)
At Super Cup, an athlete’s competition division is based on the year they were born, not their exact age on the day of the competition. This means that athletes are placed in an age division according to the age they turn in that calendar year, no matter when their birthday actually is.
Example 1: An Athlete Born in 2012
The current year is 2025.
To determine the competition age: 2025 - 2012 = 13.
Even if their birthday is in December, they will still be placed in the 13-year-old division because they turn 13 at some point in 2025.
Example 2: An Athlete Born in 2016
The current year is 2025.
To determine the competition age: 2025 - 2016 = 9.
Even if their birthday is in November, they will compete in the 9-year-old division because they turn 9 at some point in 2025.
No they can't. Since they will turn 13 in 2025, they will compete in the 13-year-old division.
No they don't. All athletes born in the same year are in the same division, regardless of when their actual birthday is.

On Smoothcomp, byes are determined automatically based on the bracket type, number of competitors, and system settings. Here’s how the system allocates byes:
1. Odd Number of Competitors: If the bracket has an odd number of competitors, the system will automatically assign a bye to balance the bracket. This ensures that every round has the correct number of matchups.
2. Seeding and Bye Distribution: Byes are typically assigned to higher-seeded competitors first (if seeding is used). If no seeding is applied, the system will allocate byes randomly.
3. Bracket Type Considerations:
4. Manual Adjustments: Tournament organizers can override automatic bye assignments and manually edit brackets in the admin panel. If seeding is applied manually, byes will be adjusted accordingly.
