At Super Cup, we use different bracket types based on the number of competitors in a division. Here's a detailed breakdown of each:
Bracket of 2: Best 2 Out of 3
When there are only two competitors in a division, we use a Best 2 Out of 3 format. This ensures that the winner is determined based on consistent performance rather than a single match outcome.
How It Works:
The two competitors will face each other in a match. If one competitor wins the first two matches, they are declared the winner, and the third match is not needed. If both competitors win one match each, a third and final match will determine the champion.
Example:
Match 1: Competitor A vs. Competitor B → Competitor A wins
Match 2: Competitor A vs. Competitor B → Competitor B wins
Match 3 (Final): Competitor A vs. Competitor B → Competitor A wins
Result: Competitor A wins 2-1 and is the champion.
This system ensures fairness by allowing both competitors to adjust their strategy after the first match.
Bracket of 3: Comeback
In a bracket of three, the winner of the first match advances to the final, and the losing athlete faces the third competitor in the bracket. The athlete who wins the second match, regardless of whether it is the same athlete who lost the first match, advances to the final to face the winner of the first match.
Bracket of 4 or More: Double Elimination with Bronze Match
For divisions with four or more competitors, we use a double-elimination bracket. This format ensures that a competitor is not eliminated after a single loss; instead, they must lose twice to be out of the tournament.
How It Works: In a Bracket of 4 or More: Double-Elimination with a Bronze Match, the losers bracket finalist (the last remaining competitor in the losers bracket) does not compete against the loser of the winners bracket final.
The structure is as follows:
1. Winners Bracket Determines 1st and 2nd Place
2. Losers Bracket Determines 3rd Place
This separates the winners bracket and losers bracket completely for final placements. The top two competitors are determined solely in the winners bracket. The best competitor from the losers bracket is awarded 3rd place without needing a separate bronze match. It ensures a clear and structured placement system while minimizing unnecessary extra matches.
