What is the best way to contact Super Cup?
+Please reach us at info@supercupjj.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Is weigh-in with or without the Gi?
+For all GI divisions, the athlete weighs in WITH the GI. For all NOGI divisions, the athlete weighs in WITHOUT the GI.
For athletes of age categories “4 - 15 years old”, an overweight of up to 2 lb. is allowed. For Juvenile athletes, an overweight of up to 1 lb. is allowed. For Adult and Master, overweight is not allowed. Any weight over these allowances will result in missing weight.
Competitors, or parents of children competitors, are responsible for ensuring that the weight is met. All athletes must make weight before their first match. Any athlete who is over their registered weight is subject to disqualification. Super Cup strongly recommends that children compete at their natural weight and does not support or encourage any form of weight cutting for competition. Athletes are allowed to weigh in without knee or elbow braces, but they must wear them during the uniform inspection. The athlete cannot step on the scale with shoes or any item other than their regular uniform and permitted equipment used during matches.
What type of brackets are used at Super Cup?
+At Super Cup, we use different bracket types based on the number of competitors in a division. Here’s a detailed breakdown of each:
When there are only two competitors in a division, we use a Best 2 Out of 3 format. This ensures that the winner is determined based on consistent performance rather than a single match outcome. How it works: The two competitors will face each other in a match. If one competitor wins the first two matches, they are declared the winner, and the third match is not needed. If both competitors win one match each, a third and final match will determine the champion. Example: Match 1: Competitor A vs. Competitor B → Competitor A wins Match 2: Competitor A vs. Competitor B → Competitor B wins Match 3 (Final): Competitor A vs. Competitor B → Competitor A wins Result: Competitor A wins 2-1 and is the champion. This system ensures fairness by allowing both competitors to adjust their strategy after the first match.
In a bracket of three, the winner of the first match advances to the final, and the losing athlete faces the third competitor in the bracket. The athlete who wins the second match, regardless of whether it is the same athlete who lost the first match, advances to the final to face the winner of the first match.
For divisions with four or more competitors, we use a double-elimination bracket. This format ensures that a competitor is not eliminated after a single loss; instead, they must lose twice to be out of the tournament. In a Bracket of 4 or More: Double-Elimination with a Bronze Match, the losers bracket finalist (the last remaining competitor in the losers bracket) does not compete against the loser of the winners bracket final.
All competitors start in the winners bracket. Competitors advance through the bracket until the winners bracket final. The winner of the winners bracket final takes 1st place. The loser of the winners bracket final takes 2nd place. There is no crossover between the winners bracket final and the losers bracket.
When a competitor loses in the winners bracket, they drop to the losers bracket for another chance. Competitors continue competing in the losers bracket until there is only one remaining. The last remaining competitor in the losers bracket is awarded 3rd place (bronze medal). They do not compete against the loser of the Winners Bracket Final. This separates the winners bracket and losers bracket completely for final placements. The top two competitors are determined solely in the winners bracket. The best competitor from the losers bracket is awarded 3rd place without needing a separate bronze match. It ensures a clear and structured placement system while minimizing unnecessary extra matches.

What happens if athlete is alone in the division?
+The athlete may stay in their current weight class, make weight, and receive the 1st place medal for their division. Please note: Option #1 is the default option if athletes do not respond to info@supercupjj.com by 12 PM (event local time) before the Registration CHECKDAY deadline.
Move up one age division, and/or move to a different weight division. By moving to a different division, athletes may be paired with an opponent. However, Super Cup cannot guarantee that an opponent will be available. The parent/legal guardian can make their selection(s) after viewing the Athlete’s List by Division. The decision to change divisions should be made solely at the parent/legal guardian’s discretion. If the parent/legal guardian chooses Option #2, please be aware that the athlete will be required to make weight for the new division. Parents/legal guardians will need to specify the exact division that they wish the athlete to move to. Teen 2 athletes and under are allowed to move up one age division if they are alone in their original division. The request to move up one age division must be done by the parent / legal guardian registered on the athlete’s Smoothcomp account. Teen 3 athletes are not eligible to move into the Juvenile division.
Withdraw from the tournament if alone at 12 PM on the Registration CHECKDAY. Athletes who are alone in their division on the Registration CHECKDAY are eligible to receive a full coupon refund of their tournament registration fee if they contact info@supercupjj.com PRIOR to the end of the Registration CHECKDAY DEADLINE. Refund coupons will be processed after 12 PM (event local time) if the athlete is still alone after the CHECKDAY period.
When can you weigh in?
+Weigh-Ins Information: Competitors may weigh 1 hour before the fight. Priority for Early Competitors: Priority will be given to competitors scheduled for fights within 1 hour. Other competitors may still weigh in, but they might have to wait until these priority athletes are processed first. Weigh-In Deadline: All competitors MUST complete their weigh-in at least one hour before their scheduled division. For example, if your match is scheduled for 11:00 AM, you must weigh in by 10:00 AM at the latest.
What if my teammate or siblings in the same bracket?
+We make every effort to separate teammates within the same division. When teammates must compete in the same bracket, they will be placed on opposite sides whenever possible to minimize early matchups against each other. However, in cases where multiple competitors from the same gym are in the bracket, separation may not be possible. You are responsible for moving to different (older or heavier) division to avoid facing a teammate. Any change must be complete by the posted deadline. Brackets are constantly changing and we are happy to explain our thought process behind creating them! If there is something that needs to be adjusted, we will do what we can. It is always better to notify us as soon as possible so we can make any corrections necessary!

+Smoothcomp App: If you haven’t seen it, Smoothcomp has an app! We highly suggest you download it and have it ready on tournament day! Lots of cool and innovative features! See the Smoothcomp App page for more information.

Brackets are constantly changing (for many reasons). If there’s something that needs to be adjusted, please let us know while there is still plenty of time BEFORE THE LAST DAY TO CHANGE DEADLINE. Don’t wait! E-mail: info@supercupjj.com
Can athletes register in multiple divisions?
+No they can’t. Athletes are allowed to enter in ONLY IN 1 DIVISION. Multiple registrations is NOT AVAILABLE. Thanks for your understanding!
Why is my child in a bracket with another child that is 1 year older?
+At Super Cup, an athlete’s competition division is based on the year they were born, not their exact age on the day of the competition. This means that athletes are placed in an age division according to the age they turn in that calendar year, no matter when their birthday actually is.
The current year is 2026. To determine the competition age: 2026 - 2013 = 13. Even if their birthday is in December, they will still be placed in the 13-year-old division because they turn 13 at some point in 2026.
The current year is 2026. To determine the competition age: 2026 - 2017 = 9. Even if their birthday is in November, they will compete in the 9-year-old division because they turn 9 at some point in 2026.
My child is still 12 during the competition, but turns 13 in December. Can they compete in the 12-year-old division?
+No they can’t. Since they will turn 13 in 2026, they will compete in the 13-year-old division.
My child’s birthday is in January. Do they compete in a different division than someone with the same birth year but a December birthday?
+No they don’t. All athletes born in the same year are in the same division, regardless of when their actual birthday is.
Can brackets change after they’re published?
+ONCE BRACKETS ARE PUBLISHED, THEY ARE FINAL. THEY ARE NOT SUBJECT TO CHANGE. We post the tournament schedule and the brackets on Wednesday the week of the tournament.
How are byes determined on the Smoothcomp system?
+On Smoothcomp, byes are determined automatically based on the bracket type, number of competitors, and system settings. Here’s how the system allocates byes:
If the bracket has an odd number of competitors, the system will automatically assign a bye to balance the bracket. This ensures that every round has the correct number of matchups.
Byes are typically assigned to higher-seeded competitors first (if seeding is used). If no seeding is applied, the system will allocate byes randomly.
Single Elimination: Byes are given in the first round to ensure the correct number of competitors advance to the next round. Double Elimination: Same as single elimination, but competitors still have a second chance in the loser’s bracket. Round Robin: No byes, since every competitor fights against all others. Custom Brackets: If manually setting up brackets, you may assign or remove byes as needed.
Tournament organizers can override automatic bye assignments and manually edit brackets in the admin panel. If seeding is applied manually, byes will be adjusted accordingly.
